Please note per ACL.
“In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a container vessel destined for Asia collided with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore. Tragically, six people on the bridge at the time are still missing. The bridge collapsed and has blocked the access to the main Baltimore terminals. At such we are unable to accept bookings from Baltimore until further notice. We will accept bookings ex New York on the direct service with the fastest transit time to West Africa, or from Norfolk, VA in T/S via Antwerp. Regarding the containers already delivered FULL in Baltimore, please note the following options.
Baltimore terminal is operating as normal to allow the below:
1. You can pick up full container, and return it empty to Baltimore.
2. You can pick up full container and transfer it to RH New York, Brooklyn or RH New York, port Newark, NJ (barge fee to apply for NJ deliveries).
3. You can pick up full container and transfer it to Norfolk, VA.
4. You will be able to pick up an Empty container from Baltimore and return it full to either New York or Norfolk.
*Any applicable terminal related costs will be billed accordingly for Empty return, export re-delivery fee or digging charges.
*You must pick up your containers in Baltimore by Monday, April 8th, 2024. After this date, the terminal will assess Export demurrage.”

Please note, per ACL, “As you are aware of the tragic bridge incident this morning, vessel traffic into and out of the Port of Baltimore is suspended. At this time, we do not know how long the vessel traffic suspension will be. If you have RORO cargo in Baltimore, we encourage you to pick them up and redeliver in Wilmington. Storage will be waived but gate in/out fee applies. Please note, per Sallaum, “Due to the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore this morning, effective tomorrow Wednesday, March 27th, 2024, South Locust Point (SLP) will be closed, and all operations will be suspended until further notice. Baltimore, MD - Important Port Notice - ALL TERMINALS
Please take note of important Baltimore, MD shipping news. Today, March 26th, 2024, a significant section of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, MD collapsed in the early morning, after a container ship collided with it. For those unfamiliar with this bridge, it had a total of 4 lanes and a span of 1200’ held up with steel arches. The steel arches are now poking through the surface of the water blocking the breadth of the passage.
As of this afternoon, RORO & Container vessels are suspended for both inbound and outbound routes There is no expectation of plan in place for reopening the waterway, at this time. Unfortunately, as expected, ALL Baltimore ports have suspended receiving of cargo until further notice. The first responders are still in the search and rescue phase of the operation. The investigation and eventual salvage/cleanup effort have no timeframe estimates.
***Please note for Bookings & Dispatch – the closest alternative RORO ports will be Wilmington, DE for Grimaldi ACL and Philadelphia, PA for Sallaum Line.
Ghanem will post updates per Carriers and local ports as we receive notice. We would recommend delivering to alternative ports until the shipping lane is open again. Please keep in mind that once the Baltimore ports resume receiving that there may be significant delays before the shipping lane is cleared.
