Baltimore, MD - Important Port Notice - ALL TERMINALS

Please take note of important Baltimore, MD shipping news. Today, March 26th, 2024, a significant section of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, MD collapsed in the early morning, after a container ship collided with it. For those unfamiliar with this bridge, it had a total of 4 lanes and a span of 1200’ held up with steel arches. The steel arches are now poking through the surface of the water blocking the breadth of the passage.

As of this afternoon, RORO & Container vessels are suspended for both inbound and outbound routes There is no expectation of plan in place for reopening the waterway, at this time. Unfortunately, as expected, ALL Baltimore ports have suspended receiving of cargo until further notice. The first responders are still in the search and rescue phase of the operation. The investigation and eventual salvage/cleanup effort have no timeframe estimates.

***Please note for Bookings & Dispatch – the closest alternative RORO ports will be Wilmington, DE for Grimaldi ACL and Philadelphia, PA for Sallaum Line.

Ghanem will post updates per Carriers and local ports as we receive notice. We would recommend delivering to alternative ports until the shipping lane is open again. Please keep in mind that once the Baltimore ports resume receiving that there may be significant delays before the shipping lane is cleared.
