Per ACL, “Baltimore Dundalk BWI / WAF Roro lot 1501 will not be accepting Forklift Non-Runner or Towable Non-Runner units on Monday, June 8th. The lot will still be open to receive drivable running units.”What Makes a Freight Partner "Trustworthy" in RORO Shipping?
The first thing to check is FMC licensing. An FMC-licensed NVOCC (Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier) is authorized by the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission to issue bills of lading, act as a carrier intermediary, and operate under strict federal compliance standards. A general freight broker does not hold this designation — and that gap in credentials is where shippers get hurt.
Please note, per Sallaum. “Due to continued increases in operational costs, including terminal handling and stevedoring expenses associated with forklift units, the Forklift Fee will be increased by $100 for all Ports of Loading, effective July 1, 2026.””
Important for RORO Shippers, per ACL. “We are aware that West Africa shipments delivered to Grimaldi have dwelt at US Ports longer than usual recently as we were challenged by increasing volumes and strong global demand for RoRo tonnage. … we want to reassure you that Grimaldi committed to deploying extra tonnage, which already in service; there are now two more PCTCs deployed in the USAWAF service for a total of 7 Liner vessels. This extra capacity will allow us to load all the on the ground inventory (approximately 15,000 units) aboard four vessels calling US ports within the next few days.
We also recognize that units delivered as runner may not start due to long periods of inactivity at the terminal. If a unit delivered to Grimaldi as a runner on or before April 30 does not start during the loading operations for one of the below voyages, we will endeavor to forklift or tow it aboard that voyage (or the next one if necessary for operational reasons) at no extra cost to you: GDK0626 - GLG0326 - GSI0526 - GCT0426.”

Presidents' Day is a major federal holiday, and most RORO terminals across the United States close or operate on limited hours. Shippers moving vehicles to West Africa, the Middle East, and other global destinations should expect delays in gate activity, releases, and terminal services until regular schedules resume tomorrow.
Despite nationwide port closures, Ghanem Forwarding LLC remains open today. Our Baltimore office is fully operational to assist with bookings, documentation, auction pickups, and coordination with carriers. If you need support with planning around the holiday or scheduling upcoming exports, our team is here to help.
Holiday disruptions are common this time of year, so proactive planning can help avoid delays. Working with an experienced NVOCC ensures your units stay on schedule, even when ports pause operations.

What this means for shippers:
• Lower total export cost for forklift‑handled units
• Simpler and more consistent pricing at all U.S. terminals
• Better transparency for budgeting shipments to West Africa
• Faster booking coordination through Ghanem
For updated RORO bookings to Lagos, Cotonou, Lomé,, and other West African destinations, Ghanem is ready to assist.

The winter storm impacting Baltimore and the Northeast continues to cause delays across multiple RoRo ports. Heavy snowfall, freezing rain, and dangerously cold temperatures have slowed clearing efforts, and several terminals remain closed while they work to restore safe operations. Baltimore alone may see 8–17 inches of snow, with icy conditions persisting into Monday morning.
Today’s Port Status:
- Grimaldi ACL — Baltimore: CLOSED
- Sallaum — Baltimore: OPEN
- Other Northeast ports may announce additional closures throughout the day.
Ghanem Forwarding’s Baltimore office is open today with limited onsite staff, while the majority of our team is working remotely all day during regular business hours to support bookings, documentation, and customer communication.
Reminder:
Please check RoRo port status before delivering cargo to avoid delays or refused entry.
Stay safe — and continue sending all booking requests to Ghanem.

Forecast models show 8–17 inches of snowfall in parts of the area, with the heaviest accumulation Sunday morning and the potential for icy conditions afterward. [wbaltv.com], [cbsnews.com]
Because of this, several RoRo terminals may issue temporary closures or delayed openings. At Ghanem Forwarding, we expect our Baltimore office to open Monday at 11:00 AM, depending on actual conditions.

Please note important update received from Sallaum Lines today: “Tradepoint is currently experiencing an issue accepting larger vessels at their berth. We are working with all parties to find a solution ASAP. Unfortunately, the G Poseidon ETA 1/18 is too large to berth at this time. This is an unusual situation — most ships can still call Tradepoint. We expect no issues with vessels scheduled after the G Poseidon.”
Ghanem’s Take: To keep your cargo moving without delay, Ghanem recommends following Sallaum’s temporary guidance for the next 7–10 days:
-Deliver all Baltimore → West Africa Sallaum cargo to SLP instead of Tradepoint
-This is a temporary operational adjustment, not a long-term issue
-Ghanem will prioritize your bookings and coordinate seamlessly with Sallaum
Per Sallaum: “Please be advised that any vehicles dropped outside or near the Tradepoint Atlantic terminal after terminal operating hours will be impounded and scrapped by local authorities. NO EXCEPTIONS. The following vehicle was found over the weekend outside of the terminal: TOYOTA COROLLA 2011 VIN: 2T1BU4EE0BC653140. It was not booked with Sallaum Lines. It has since been impounded and scrapped. If this unit belongs to your customer, please contact us immediately. Local authorities have informed Sallaum Lines that booking agents will be held responsible for all associated costs, including but not limited to a $1,000 fine, towing and impound fees. Please note that Sallaum Lines will not assume responsibility for vehicles delivered outside of terminal operating hours, nor can we intervene once enforcement actions have been taken. To avoid any issues, we ask that you ensure all drivers, dispatchers, and transporters are properly instructed to deliver vehicles only during authorized terminal hours and in accordance with terminal procedures.”
